WHEATLAND (IOWA) Clinton County Extension Master Gardeners are one step closer to constructing a storage building for the Outdoor Living Classroom garden located at the Clinton County fairgrounds.

Thanks to a generous grant of $230 from Iowa Network Services (INS) and a matching contribution of $230 from F&B Communications, the local telecommunications provider in Calamus, Delmar and Wheatland in Clinton County, the master gardeners will soon have a place to store their gardening equipment.

The Outdoor Living Classroom was designed to provide an outdoor teaching environment for fair-goers, school groups and community organizations. In the garden's three year history, many individuals have toured and learned more about the garden and its plants.

“This horticultural masterpiece is the work of countless hours of volunteer labor that enhances the quality of life for all residents and visitors to Clinton County,” said Ken Laursen, F&B Communications general manager. “We are proud to support this project.”

The Clinton County Extension Master Gardeners are a group of more than 60 students of all ages who have completed intense training in horticulture. The program is sponsored by Iowa State University Extension.

F&B Communications is one of 156 Iowa independent telephone company member-owners of INS, which helps to provide advanced telecommunications and data services across the state. INS established the grant program to bring INS closer to its member companies and customers.

Since the grant program was established in 1992, more than $12,000 has been awarded to organizations in the F&B Communications service area.

The charity grant program is open to non-profit organizations in the F&B Communications service area. Grant applications are available at the business office in Wheatland. Charity grants are awarded on a quarterly basis.

F&B Communications is the premiere local telecommunications provider offering telephone, long distance, digital video, dial-up Internet, high-speed DSL Internet and wireless PCS services to customers in the Bennett, Calamus, Delmar, Lowden and Wheatland exchanges and surrounding areas.
