FIELDS F&B SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT
WHEATLAND (IOWA) Andrew Fields, a senior at North Cedar High School from Lowden, has been named this year’s local F&B Communications $500 scholarship winner.
Fields plans to attend Kirkwood Community College, Cedar Rapids, and eventually transfer to a university to study mechanical or civil engineering.
In his application essay, Fields wrote how the leadership role he accepted on the football team helped him develop his character and traits of responsibility and accountability.
Andrew is an exemplary individual and possesses the talents necessary to become a successful contributor to his community, said Ken Laursen, general manager.
High school seniors who live in households in the F&B local telephone service area were eligible for the award. Students submitted an application form and three finalists were selected for in-person interviews. A primary goal of the scholarship is to ensure that children have the privilege of attending college and encourage young people to return to rural areas after graduation.
The local F&B scholarship program was started in 2003 because the Board of Directors and employees of F&B are committed to the education of local youth and believe learning is a lifelong process.
Andrew’s parents are Scott and Carmen Fields.
