of the F&B Communications scholarship with her school and community
involvement and academic achievements, said Ken Laursen, general
High school seniors who live in households in the F&B local
telephone service area were eligible for the $500 award. Students
submitted an application form and three finalists were selected
for in-person interviews.
“Nicole represents the best and brightest in our area and
is a future community leader,"
“We’re proud to present her with this scholarship to
help her continue her education.”
A primary goal of the scholarship is to ensure that our community’s
children have the privilege of attending college and encourage young
people to return to rural areas after graduation, said Aaron Horman,
In her application essay, Hermiston wrote of her journey to earn
a State FFA Degree through her academic involvement and extra-curricular
participation. She also expressed an interest in returning to a
rural community to utilize her skills attained at Iowa State.
The local F&B scholarship was started in 2003 because the Board
of Directors and employees of F&B are committed to the education
of local youth and believe learning is a lifelong process.
Hermiston’s parents Ron and Jill subscribe to F&B telephone
service in the Wheatland exchange.
