EMILY DENGER NAMED F&B SCHOLARSHIP WINNER
WHEATLAND (IOWA) Emily Denger, a senior at Maquoketa High School from Delmar, has been named this year’s local F&B Communications $500 scholarship winner.
Denger plans to attend the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls to study elementary education.
In her application essay, Denger wrote how growing up in a small community has shaped her as an individual and her experiences at Delwood Elementary School inspired her to seek a degree in elementary education.
Emily is a model student who fulfills the ideals of the F&B Communications scholarship program with her academic achievements and community involvement, said Ken Laursen, general manager.
High school seniors who live in households in the F&B local telephone service area were eligible for the award. Students submitted an application form and three finalists were selected for in-person interviews.
A primary goal of the scholarship is to ensure that our community’s children have the privilege of attending college and encourage young people to return to rural areas after graduation, said Aaron Horman, marketing manager.
This is the tenth year of the local F&B scholarship. The program was started in 2003 because the Board of Directors and employees of F&B are committed to the education of local youth and believe learning is a lifelong process.
Emily's parents are Dave and Rhonda Denger.
