DREWELOW NAMED F&B SCHOLAR
WHEATLAND (IOWA) Christopher Drewelow, a senior at North Cedar High School from Lowden, has been named this year’s local F&B Communications $500 scholarship winner.
Drewelow plans to attend Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids and then transfer to the University of Iowa to study engineering.
In his application essay, Drewelow wrote of the values instilled in him as a result of living in a small, rural community.
Drewelow is an outstanding student and exemplifies the characteristics of the F&B Communications scholarship program with his school and community involvement and academic achievements, Ken Laursen, general manager, said.
High school seniors who live in households in the F&B local telephone service area were eligible for the award. Students submitted an application form and three finalists were selected for in-person interviews.
A primary goal of the scholarship is to ensure that our community’s children have the privilege of attending college and encourage young people to return to rural areas after graduation, Aaron Horman, marketing manager, said.
The local F&B scholarship was started in 2003 because the Board of Directors and employees of F&B are committed to the education of local youth and believe learning is a lifelong process.
Drewelow’s parents Tim and Jane subscribe to F&B services in the Lowden exchange.
F&B Communications is the premiere local telecommunications provider offering telephone, long distance, digital video, dial-up Internet, high-speed DSL Internet, satellite Internet, wireless PCS and home security services to customers in the Bennett, Calamus, Delmar, Lowden and Wheatland exchanges and surrounding areas.
